# Issues

## Issues in Tasks

Both Annotators and Reviewers can add Issue threads to Tasks. Typically a thread is started by a Reviewer because of an issue on a Task, but Annotators can start threads too.

**To start an Issue thread:**

1. Click the **Issues** button in the Label Editor.

   A dialog appears.

2. Click the **New issue** button.

3. Specify the location of the Issue.

   You have a few options depending on the data unit you are working on:

   * **Entire file:** The Issue applies to the entire file.
   * **Pin on canvas:** The Issue applies at a specific location of the data unit.
   * **Pin on frame:** The Issue applies on a specific frame in a video.

4. Specify an Issue tag for the Issue thread if your Admin has created Issue tags in Encord.

5. Type the message you want to communicate in the **Comment** field.

6. Click **Create issue**.

7. Rinse and repeat until you are finished.

## Resolve Issue Threads

Annotators, Reviewers, Annotator-Reviewers, Team Managers, and Project Admins can resolve an Issue thread. There is no mechanism that requires specific Project roles or users to resolve an Issue thread.

<Note>
  To verify if an issue has been resolved, filter the Issue threads. Specify **Resolved** or **All** to view Issue threads that are marked as resolved.
